Maths
Our Ethos
- To provide the foundation for developing the mathematical skills needed in later life by promoting initiative, imagination and logical thinking.
- To ensure all children reach their full potential in mathematics, their individual needs and abilities must be recognised and developed in a caring and supportive environment, in partnership with parents.
- To provide all the children with full access to the curriculum, enabling them to achieve confidence and competence i.e. ‘mastery’ rather than failing to develop the skills they need for the future.
Intent
- Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics.
- Develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly.
- To reason and problem-solve by applying mathematics to a variety of increasingly complex problems.
- To build upon children's knowledge and understanding from EYFS, year 1 to year 6.
- To develop resilience that enables all children to reason and problem-solve with increased confidence.
- To equip children with the mathematical skills necessary to engage in real-life applications of mathematics.
